URGENT: Brown has decided to defund the Indy—we need your help
From all of us at the Indy—we need your help to fund our journalism.
TLDR: Without your support, the Indy will be unable to print our weekly issues. You can donate by becoming a paid supporter of our Substack newsletter (click the button below) or by giving a one-time donation to our GoFundMe.
We (Sacha, Jane, and Corinne) wish we had more uplifting news. On Thursday, Brown University’s Student Activities Office (SAO) stopped funding our print issues for the semester. We first learned of this decision when our printing company called to inform us that SAO had frozen our account.
We are seeking to raise $11,000 in order to fund our eight forthcoming print issues, paper distribution, and stipend program for the fall semester. (Each issue costs us $1,150 to print and $235 to distribute.)
14 of our visual staff members are tasked entirely with creating print layouts and some are compensated for their work; SAO's defunding would make their work futile due to the small mistake of a few.
You can support the Indy’s work into the future—and get Indy content in your inbox every week—by becoming a paid subscriber to our Substack newsletter.
We will stop at nothing to ensure the Indy's continuity in the coming months. We have contingency plans through which we plan to continue printing even without Brown—but to continue onward, we need your help. Please reach out if you have any questions.
Best,
Sacha, Jane, and Corinne
